The packaging at Trader Joe's gets me every time. I spied a basketful of these little bars right by the check-out and into my cart one went!

Trader Joe's Birthday Cake Bars cost $1.49 each. The description on the package reads, "white chocolate bar with cookie crumbs and sprinkles."

A mom's (my) take: To be fair, I am not a fan of white chocolate. I had some hope for this bar, though, since it mentioned "cookie crumbs" in the description. I was picturing something along the line of Joe Joe's/Oreos-type cookies. Whatever type of cookie crumb is in here is not discernable and does not take away from the overly sweet (not in a good way), white chocolate taste. The bar is divided into 6 squares. I ate half of one square. Take this with a grain...or sprinkle...of salt, though. If you're a fan of white chocolate, this might be a winner for you.
Overall rating: 2 of 5 stars

A teenager's (Jack's ) take: I might be a bit biased on this since I am a fan of white chocolate. :) Overall, this bar is great! The addition of the sprinkles and the cookie "crumbs" give the bar a much-needed variety (both of consistency and of taste), as pure white chocolate can tend to be a bit rich... More than anything, this bar reminds me of a cookies-and-cream milkshake. Not sure why. Again, I love this bar as a whole, but it could be titled something other than "birthday cake"--it could pass for so many other flavors!
Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars

  1. I bought this yesterday with my 4-year-old in mind but had to try it - I think it tastes exactly like a circus animal cookie! Super sweet, a tiny bit of crunch, fun but not an everyday treat for me. = )
