10 Recipes to Make for a Coronation Party

Are you planning to watch The Coronation of King Charles? From what I gather, it will air at 5am EST in the US on Saturday, May 6th. Coverage will begin on the BBC live at 2:30am EST. I'm tired just typing that.

Whether you're getting up early and watching in your jammies, recording it for later...or just looking for an excuse to make something special, I have some ideas for you! (I wonder what Kate is baking for the big day.)

10 Recipes to Make for a Coronation Party

10 Recipes to Make for a Coronation Party

(Anyone else having visions of Frankie Heck from The Middle and her love of the Royals right now?)

coronation chicken tea sandwiches

kensington palace-inspired coronation chicken tea sandwiches

These are A MUST. Do not pass GO; do not collect $200. MAKE THESE SANDWICHES. The recipe is inspired by afternoon tea at the Pavilion at Kensington Palace. They're crazy good.

british scones

british scones with irish butter and jam

I mean, you cannot have a Coronation celebration...or a proper afternoon tea...without scones. They are the perfect vehicle for clotted cream (or butter!) and jam.

London Acai + Almond Butter Bowls

If you are getting up early to watch the Coronation live, make these London Acai + Almond Butter Bowls. I had something similar while visiting King's Cross Station and couldn't wait to recreate it at home. It's so refreshing and will hit the spot at 5am!

Queenies Cookies

You're going to need cookies for the Coronation. May I suggest Queenies? They're a lovely hazelnut-forward cookie sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Royal Queen-shaped Earl Grey Shortbread Cookies

Maybe you want your cookies to scream ROYALTY. I know, I know, we're celebrating the King, but can we just admit that Queen Elizabeth makes for a cuter cookie cutter? Earl Grey shortbread is just the ticket with a spot of tea.

Bakewell Tart, sliced

How can we not be baking Bakewell Tart for the Coronation? A buttery tart shell filled with jam, frangipane (almond cream), and topped with a pretty sugar glaze, this Bakewell Tart will be the crown jewel *ahem* of your Coronation party. Thanks, GBBO, for introducing us to the Bakewell!

Mary Berry's Lemon Poppy Seed Traybake in pan

Mary Berry's Lemon Poppy Seed Traybake bite

Speaking of treats inspired by the Great British Baking Show, the Coronation calls for a little something from Mary Berry - a traybake! It's a cinch to make and easy to transport!

Chelsea Buns

Chelsea Buns, side view

I can't say "Chelsea buns" without hearing Paul Hollywood in my head. Soft, pull-apart Chelsea Buns are flavored with citrus and spices right in the dough, a cinnamon-spiced and dried fruit filling, and a light glaze.

Rose Petal Porridge in white bowl with floral napkin

Call it oatmeal if you must, but this comforting bowl of porridge is the most gorgeous, fanciest oatmeal you'll ever eat. Inspired by the Rose Porridge Bowl at Brown & Rosie in the Kensington area of London: steel-cut oats with rose-infused almond milk topped with toasted almonds, berries, and edible rose buds. Edible rose buds? This is perfect for King Charles' love of gardens and all things nature. Have you seen the floral and foliage Coronation official invitation

British-Themed Decorated Cookies

We can't let a party go by without decorated cookies, can we? The Union Jack features prominently in this British cookie set, along with British sayings that I'm quite sure British people never say. Pip! Pip! Cheerio!

I'm not sure if I'll wake up early to watch...I'm definitely making several British treats to get in the spirit of things.
I CAN'T WAIT to see what Kate will be wearing!
