I'm always leaning towards pinks and reds and yellows and dots...read: BRIGHT...when making cottage cookies.
A sweet lady wanted to send some housewarming cookies to a friend. She described their house style as "Restoration Hardware" and wanted cookies in blue and brown. Well, I just love the way they turned out. I may take a break from BRIGHT and move into a more mature cookie decorating palette.
{OK...I'll never leave my pinks and reds and dots, but these were a lovely change!}
Here are the colors that I used...all AmeriColor Gel/Paste food colorings.
What color combos would you use to make pretty cottages?

how about a sage green or very light green cottage with a pale yellow or creamy very light yellow roof? maybe not on the roof, but light green houses would be cute, i think.

ReplyDeleteI had to tell you I have finally tried my hand at royal icing decorated cookies,inspired by your cute ideas on your blog. I made teddy bear cookies and round cookies that said "It's a boy!", for a co-worker who became a grandmother for the first time. I wrapped them in a cute little box and she was so delighted with them.
I would post a pix for you to see my rookie work, but they were not great. I definitely need more practice.
Anyway, thanks for inspiring me. I am having fun with it. This weekend I am making some heart cookies for Valentine's Day. We'll see how that goes....

How about pink and brown(in sticking to the original lyrics:) I love the blue and brown though! Actually, all of your cottages look SO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteso pretty! I have to admit something: I read your advice on using cold butter instead of chilling the batter and I was very skeptical... THE BEST SUGAR COOKIES EVER! I used the vanilla paste too. I have tried so many recipes and they alway spread out while baking. I've been so frustrated. They won over the main judges (husband and kiddos). Thanks!!
