It wasn't pretty...I had the tips sorted by size and in snack-sized baggies. Then I had those and all of the couplers in a quart-size baggie. You know how baggies get ugly after they've been used (and opened and closed, and opened and closed, and shoved in a drawer) again and again? It's not pretty. And let's face it...cookie decorating should be cute.
The boxes are called Amac boxes...and they come in the prettiest colors, but I went with clear. I labeled the tops with a sharpie...I know, so fancy, right?
Now, when I reach for an icing tip, seeing these cute little boxes lined up in the drawer makes me happy.
Amac boxes, they work for me!
I love being organized and without attention and effort, kitchen gadgets have a way of multiplying in your drawers and taking over your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteClever idea. I should have waited before buying one of those Wilton suitcase things. I will admit that before I bought the case my tips were pretty much everywhere and every time I needed to use them I had to go through the whole damn box to find what I wanted. Not sure about anyone else but when I go rummaging my fingers are always covered in icing so then I have to wash the whole lot. :)
ReplyDeleteGenius. Simply genius. I must follow suit!
ReplyDeleteThis. is. Awesome! I am doing the baggie thing right now. I am so going to buy these, maybe tomorrow. Thanks for the tip... hehe...no pun intended.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea! I'm currently using the baggie idea haha...that needs to change! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea. I have used small craft baggies but they're kind of a pain in the neck...this would be a lot better!
ReplyDeleteI like seeing them in all those clear containers too!
ReplyDeleteomg i keep mine in baggies. this is me being ashamed.
ReplyDeleteLove this Look!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's exactly how I store mine, ziplock baggies inside ziplock baggies. You're right about one thing, it sure isn't pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch a agood trick. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to get rid of my baggies.
ReplyDeleteGreat trick! I bought one of those Wilton storage caddy thingees and truthfully, it doesn't have enough cubbies for tips! Your method is genius!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
ReplyDeletenice!! I just wish we had Container Store in our country...
ReplyDeleteBridget, This is such a fantastic idea, and so timely! I need to seriously re-think my baking supplies organization and am trying to streamline things. This will make organizing my tips and couplers a breeze. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeletefantastic idea, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, so much cuter than plastic bags, hands down!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the idea. It can be seen very well if they are hard plastic or acrylic. Here in Spain methacrylate is very expensive, but we'll see what else can be used. a greeting
ReplyDeletegreat idea! I love those little boxes. So I'm glad to know what they are called.
ReplyDeleteWoah that looks so swish, waaaay more classy than zip lock baggies. Thanks for sharing. I have mine in little clear craft boxes with dividers but they just don't look as pretty as yours.
ReplyDeleteI love being organised and think this is just a great idea! I store my tips in the same way as you - small clear plastic bags. I'll definitely keep my eye out for this type of container. I love the hand-written labels, too! Makes them much more persoanl and homely.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea. I need to get into this!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea!! If I ever get rich and have actual room for my stuff I am so going to do that:)
ReplyDeleteI remembered your instagram of this idea the other day and was wondering when you were going to post it! I LOVE this idea!
ReplyDeleteI love having things neat and organized and easy to access too. Love these little boxes Bridget! My tips and couplers are currently stored in see-through flip top containers that have twelve adjustable compartments. Works for me for now, but I'm always changing things up ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't stop looking at organizing things! I am a little obsessed! I really like this for tips. Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteI'm currently a member of the sandwich bag club myself!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness what a great idea....love it!! I am so going to do this one! I have so many and do have the the little holder but that silly thing takes up so much space. This is such a better way to organize it! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI have about 6 of those hard Ateco/Wilton cases that each hold 26 tips. I sorted my tips by the type - (round, petal, leaf, etc). Seeing your idea, I think someone with a few tips might stack their tips by type (round, petal, etc), see how tall the tallest stack is and look for boxes that would fit them stacked by type. I never thought about stacking them - even though when I go to a cake supply shop, that's how they have them in their little drawers - stacked. Thanks for sharing you wisdom with us.
ReplyDeleteOh - and my couplers and miscellaneous type tips are in baggies. Aren't baggies the best invention!!!
Have you ever tried a small tackle and bait box? You can get them from any sporting or fishing store. They're fantastic!
ReplyDeletePractical finds like your Amac boxes are what make me enjoy visiting school supply and hardware stores!
ReplyDeleteThis is genius!! By the way, if you still need the "before" pic, yeah, I could help you out.
ReplyDeleteThat's so smart! I put mine in a Wilton box I got when I got a $3 off coupon. The Wilton boxes are usually around $7 and the tips don't always stay at their position. Not the best solution.
ReplyDeleteBesides icing tips I also have quite a few pastry tips and antique tips which are way too big or way too skinny for the Wilton box. Your idea will work really nicely with those! Only if we have a Container Store in Canada!!! :(
Oh my gosh are you organized. My tips and couplers are spread around the kitchen in random cabinets. My goal is to have them in a baggie. I have one of those little boxes (that come with the Wilton set) but I don't know where it is. My husband would absolutely love me to have these little boxes so that I can be organized (I'm sloppy but don't really care) so I think I'll be sending him this post close to my birthday. Thanks for the idea! :)
ReplyDeleteWow what a great idea. I am going to head to the container store, unless I can find them closer to home.
ReplyDeleteNow... if ONLY I could figure out what to do with all of my cookie cutters.....
I have two tip/coupler questions that I am hoping you could help me with. I am looking for a couple without the slit cut into the side/tip. I am also having trouble finding couplers for the larger tips. Thanks so much! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney!
DeleteI don't think all of mine have the slit in the side. Hmmm...
As for the larger couplers, I know I've seen them at Sur La Table. :)
Awesome tip for the tips. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Container Store. Thanks for the suggestions. I have a manangeable amount of tips for my cupcakes, but now that I'm playing with cookie decorating, they are starting to get out of hand. I found one in my bathroom medicine cabinet. Hopefully, I didn't put it there or I'm having more than organization issues. Thanks as always Bridget!
ReplyDeleteI could live in the Container Store. It's an organization dream come true. These storage boxes are perfect for your tips and couplers!
ReplyDeleteSome could take inspiration from your re-organization. Thank you for sharing your suggestions.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I use film canisters and do the same with marking the tops with a sharpie :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! The smaller boxes you have the icing tips in almost look the same as toothpick/cocktail stick boxes here in the UK which has clearly given me inspiration. I don't have that many icing tips... YET! But I'll be sure to store them this way when I'm not such a novice and have plenty of tips :)
ReplyDelete-Lisa.
Wow! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of organizationally challenged, so I love to see what other people are doing. Love it!
Such a cute and clever idea! I'll have to check those out at the Container Store.
ReplyDeleteGenius, genius, genius, genius. Did I mention genius?
