{more on these in a minute...}
We all have causes that tug at our heartstrings whether it's baking cakes for children in foster care, sponsoring children in Africa or supporting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
The Make A Wish Foundation is one of those causes for me. Their mission:
"We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy."
So, when I had the chance (through My Blog Spark & Betty Crocker) to get the word out and to help, I said, "of course!"
You can join Betty Crocker to help grant wishes by giving in two easy ways:
- Support the Make-A-Wish Foundation® online while saving on your favorite Betty Crocker® products through the Give $5, Get $5 promotion. Just visit StirringUpWishes.com from now through April 15th to donate $5 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help make children’s wishes come true and get $5 worth of downloadable Betty Crocker coupons.
- Simply purchase your favorite Betty Crocker® products this spring. For every specially marked package purchased, Betty Crocker will donate 10¢ to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000 and a maximum donation of $500,000.
{The recipe cards and "from the kitchen of" stickers are from little ol' me.}
Just leave a comment telling me about a charity that speaks to you.
Now, how about a little recipe to go with that prize pack?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies
1 box original Betty Crocker Supreme brownie mix (with chocolate pouch)
1 pouch Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
12 oz. semisweet chocolate (I used Baker's SEMISWEET squares)
3/4 c. heavy cream
6 TBSP butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350. Grease the bottom only of a 9 x 13" pan.
Prepare the brownie mix as directed. Pour into prepared pan. Set aside.
Prepare the cookie dough as directed.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out almost clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
For the ganache:
Chop the chocolate (or use chocolate chips). Heat the cream and butter just until it begins to simmer. Pour over the chopped chocolate. Let sit 5 minutes, then stir until smooth. Stir in the vanilla.
{I could dive head first right into this.}
Pour the ganache over the cooled brownies, spread and let stand until the ganache has set. Cut with a bench scraper and devour!
This is one of the easiest desserts I've ever made. The ganache just takes it to the next level...I'm going to go out on a limb and say you'll love it.
{And, they taste even better the next day! Especially when you just take a bite every time you walk past the pan.}
{Betty Crocker & MyBlogSpark provided me with a brownie mix, chocolate chip cookie mix and spoon. They also donated $25 to the Make A Wish Foundation on my behalf. Thank you!}
Remember...leave a comment about your favorite charity...and tweet this giveaway for one more entry. (Leave a separate comment.)

ReplyDeleteMake a wish is fantastic and my favorite especially when I saw what they did for a special friend.
ReplyDeleteThose brownies looks so good!
Those are so good! I made them after I saw the recipe on TidyMom's blog too! Going over to check out the website now!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Special Olympics. I have volunteered at many events and they are a blast. The kids are great! I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteRebuilding Together is my favorite charity. They go renovate elderly and handicapped people's homes to make them safer, comfortable and more energy efficient.
ReplyDeleteMarch of Dimes is my favorite charity. I'm actually walking/fundraising for it this year and I'm so amazed at how generous people can be when asked to donate for this cause.
ReplyDeleteIt helps to improve birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes tries to give all babies a chance at a long, happy and healthy life.
This is such a heart-felt giveaway. Thank you.
Btw, those brownies look absolutely amazing, I am without a doubt going to try to make them!
I'm walking for the March of Dimes in a few weeks in honor of Maddie and my friend Charlie. Our lives are forever changed thanks to the newborn screening. I can't thank them enough.

ReplyDeleteI like Locks of Love; I've donated my hair to it!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Great cause and great recipe!

ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. I already loved Betty Crocker, but now I love them even more and will be sure to choose that brand over any other this spring!

My most recent favorite charity is Compassion International!
ReplyDeleteAnd, WOWZERS, what a brownie!!
Child Alive! It provides mosquito nets to the vulnerable in Western Africa. On a continent where a child dies of malaria every 30 seconds, these nets have been 75% effective in preventing malaria. 100% of the proceeds from my cookies go to this cause.

Your brownies look absolutely sinful! Having lost both parents to cancer and a sister now recovering from breast cancer, the Canadian Cancer Society receives our support annually. Also support our local United Way and the Kidney Foundation and my grand-daughter donated her her long hair to Locks of Love just after her sixth birthday...so proud of her:)
ReplyDeleteI've been to Africa four times with Mothers Without Borders (www.motherswithoutborders.org). It's a wonderful organization whose mission is to make change 'one child at a time.'
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that! Love a good cause.
ReplyDeleteAnd can I just say, possibly the best baking gift I've ever received is these brownies??? (But don't tell the cookies, I don't want them to have hurt feelings)
Just made some of these last night! Mmmmmmmmm. I found the recipe on Bakerella's site.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity now is the Multiple Sclerosis one. I've watched my grandmother suffer from MS for as long as I can remember, but I know her faith in Jesus and the tight bond she has with family keeps her going each day!
ReplyDeleteMy fave charity is my local YWCA- they do so much to help my community!
ReplyDeleteIt's a smaller charity, but I've been involved with Project Kindle for a couple of years and have loved it. This organization makes such an impact on so many children!
ReplyDeleteHabitat for Humanity is my current favorite. I think putting families in need it their own home is a great start!
ReplyDeleteThose brownies look to die for!!! YUM!
What a great cause & thank you Betty Crocker. I would have to say FAAN (The Food ALlergy & Anaphlaxis Network)because my son has severe food allergies. Make a Wish is a great one also; I tear up everytime I see what they do for children. Thank you!
ReplyDeletemy favorite charity is something a group of my friends and I do twice a month for about 2years now. It is called Laundry Love and every 1st and 3rd Wednesday we go to a laundry mat and do the laundry for people who are in need. It is a simple way to give, build relationships and help lessen the "load" on people's lives. Each week we get to help about 70-100 people.
ReplyDeleteanything that involves orphans and helping the oppressed. Compassion.net
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing! Very decadent with the ganache on top. I wonder if Betty Crocker has found her way to the UK.......
ReplyDeleteMy favourite charity is Breast Cancer Research. My bf's mum has had breast cancer, and survived, so since then I have always tried to donate to them whenever I can.
Holy moly, those brownies look delicious. My mouth is watering!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity is Makarios International. They have several initiatives in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico City and Sudan. They have a school in the DR that has done great things. They help local farmers in the DR sell their coffee at fair trade prices and even have a related coffee shop in Austin, TX that solely uses that coffee (Dominican Joe).
These look delicious!
ReplyDeleteCharities close to our hearts - AHA (our son has a congenital heart defect), Make a Wish Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and our local Relay for Life. Oh, and both of our girls have donated their hair to Locks of Love.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

My husband and I are big fans of Compassion International. We have two children that we support monthly and love to get letters from them and hear how they are learning about Jesus and growing in their schools.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the Make a Wish Foundation! It's such a wonderful cause for children! I have several charities that I love, especially for awareness on issues with Heart Disease, Cancer and Pet Abuse...all of those hold special places in my heart!
ReplyDeleteA charity close to our heart is the Susan B. Koman foundation - we lost my sister-in-law to breast caner 9 years ago, and ever year the whole family goes to the huge Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer Walk in St. Louis- we have a huge group, and a great way to remember such an awesome lady!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great thing Betty Crocker is doing with Make a Wish - that is such a FANTASTIC organization!!....and I LOVE Betty♥
We give to a lot of charities - but right now our favorite is Autism Speaks - our five year old son has Aspergers.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger (in High School), I participated in World Vision's "24-Hour Famine."
ReplyDeleteI love World Vision. We sponser a sweet boy in South Africa and have given towards things like wells and livestock. I love this program because it helps Mama-elang (our child) and his community, as well.
ReplyDeleteI tweeted here http://twitter.com/Tidymom/statuses/11820226337
ReplyDeleteLots of generous people read your blog! I have to say that I wish I did more... Most of my contributions to charity are to Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army and through my church.
ReplyDeleteI need to find a good reason to make these brownies. We are overloaded with desserts, but these look sooo good.
the local animal shelter--
ReplyDeleteThese look great! I love this type of yumminess!
ReplyDeleteI like all pet charities, but "Friends of Pets" is a great one!
We love Make a Wish, yet another great wish organization is Magic Moments, which is an Alabama based wish organization, serving children who live in or are treated in Alabama. Like Make a Wish, Magic Moments grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses and also children with life altering illnesses, like Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spinal Biffida, etc. These children may not have life threatening illnesses, yet they often cannot participate in activities and other area like children without illnesses and disabilities can. This organization is very close to my heart because my son was a wish recipient. They include the whole family , including the sibilings and we were able to go to Disney World where we stayed at Give Kids the World Village, which is another wonderful organization I support.
ReplyDeleteOh my God those look amazing!
ReplyDeleteMake a Wish is also one of my favorite charities. So cool to have an easy way to help and make a donation...just buy baking supplies! (done!)
My goodness those look amazing and i love your HEART bowl!!
ReplyDeleteI've made these before but not with Ganache!! Great Idea! and great cause too!! Make-a-Wish would definitely be my choice too!

dmfitzpatrick16@rangers.nwosu.edu
LOVE the ganache picture! You'd have to push me aside to jump in!
ReplyDeleteI had the opportunity to raise funds and grant 2 wishes with the MakeAWish Foundation in college! It is such a wonderful organization and I have been looking for a way to get involved again with them.
ReplyDeleteAnother charity I have recently donated with is Team-in-Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I also enjoy working with the Ronald McDonald House to bring treats and care to the families utilizing those homes while their children are receiving treatments.
anything charity that involves children tugs at my heart strings. but st judes and make a wish are definitely up there for me.
ReplyDeleteI also have a brother that is autistic so I always donate to many organizations associated with that as well!
These look absolutely heavently and I think I gained 10 lbs just drooling over them! My sister would die over these!
I'm totally in love and involved in 'Because I Am A Girl'. It's about giving girls, in poverty stricken parts of the world, a chance at education.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought Easter was over. More sweets. That looks good.
Compassion. We sponsor two beautiful little girls, and I hope we are making a difference in their lives.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is a local charity in Houston. Fifth Ward Pregnancy Center.
ReplyDeleteThose look yummy! I have been wanting to try them for a while! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have been supporters of World Vision. So impressed with the work that they are doing.
My fav charity is a local one called Your Safe Haven, which is a women's shelter for battered women who need help escaping from their abuser. Thanks for the chance to win.

I always enjoy donating to my local Community Kitchen along with all the local schools (through fundraisers and such). I have also just donated to a dear friend of my mine who is walking 36 miles for the Cure of Breast Cancer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! My company actually has an event every year that auctions off decorated bras to raise money for Susan G Komen, we raised over 10,000 dollars last year and it was so much fun! You can check out the event website at www.brasforacausewcr.com :)
ReplyDeleteI love these brownies! I make mine with chocolate buttercream frosting and they are divine. Love the ganache too!
ReplyDeleteThose bars look yummy. I always donate to Make a Wish, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army. My teen daughter and I are volunteers for Save the Bay which is a great cause.
ReplyDeleteASC - Relay for Life
ReplyDeleteWe give through our Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which in turn has connections with many other charities.
ReplyDeleteI have recently discovered a charity called Water is Life. The provide filtered straws for people in places that don't have drinkable water. www.waterislife.com
ReplyDeleteAnd YUMMY desert by the way!
We support several charites, but one that is very dear to my heart is ShowHope (showhope.org). They support orphans in China and around the world and families who are adopting.
ReplyDeleteOh Bridget!
ReplyDeleteYou and TidyMom have this recipe mastered!
I know I used up 10 Weight Watcher points just reading and drooling during this post!
Guess I need to go and climb some SPEEDBUMPS to burn off the calories! Hahahahahah!
Now...
you really have me thinking here.
I don't have a specific charity to speak of.
I just GIVE!
I GIVE as needed to all living creatures who need me. I've always been this way.
If there's a turtle in the middle of the dirtroad...or any road...I move it.
If I pass someone...and they need my help...I dig down in my purse and surprise them with a big ole amount of money ! ;o)
Once Greg bought a new watch in London.
That day...
we went all over London...
in search of the perfect homeless man to give Greg's old watch to. Now that was fun!
Once I called a Women's Homeless Shelter...
and I asked them to select a sweet lady that I could be friends with.
ANd I took her tons and tons and tons of clothes and the BEST tolietrees!
She LOVED it!
ANd we stayed friends a very long time.
And in all the pictures I took of her...she smiled the bigggggest smiles...with just a few teeth. ;o)
And once I signed up to host a PARTY at a WOMEN's prison!
I invited all of my cute church girlfriends...
and I had tons of cheeseburgers donated from Sonic....and we took chips and sweets and MUSIC that we cranked up!
ANd we decorated that big room like it's NEVER been decorated before!
Then the women in the prison that had earned the monthly party all came in and enjoyed the Sonic burgers and lots of FUN with all of my friends! You can imagine all the questions we were asking them!
And then one time my sister and I were in San Diego. We went out walking one morning....before breakfast at the bed and breakfast. we spotted a sweet homeless lady....sitting up against a tree.
When we got back to the bed and breakfast...
and were enjoying our french toast...up in our room....with powdered sugar and syrup....we thought of the homeless lady....sitting under the tree!
So we packed up the breakfast.
We loaded up on sweet smelling tolietrees from the bed and breakfast....and took the rose from the breakfast tray....and headed back to the lady...sitting under the tree!
I will NEVER forget the smile as we presented her with all of her goodies.
I'm sorry...I have rambled.
But like I said.
you got me to thinking!
And when I get to thinking...
well watch out!
I love you sweet Bridget and I love the HEART that's behind the screen of Bake at 350!
xxooxx
Great post! It's hard to pick one charity! I favor the ovarian cancer research and then kid's charities...like THIS one, and cookies for kid's cancer.
ReplyDeleteAnd the brownies...WOW!!!

ReplyDeleteTexas Outdoor C.H.I.L.D -- is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor adventures to children and young people from the ages of 8 to 20 years old who are residents or are native to the State of Texas. These children and young people are the victims of terminal illnesses or life altering medical problems.
ReplyDeleteMy brother helps with the many hunts and trips that are planned for these kids and it is an amazing experience to become involved with.
http://www.texasoutdoorchild.org/
Oh my gosh! Those look awesome
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity would be...does extreme house makeover count?...if not then I would say make-a-wish. I had a child hood friend that was born with many medical problems and she got a chance to "Make a wish". She is healthy and still living to this day even though there was some doubts.
ReplyDeleteI tried those cookie brownies not too long ago and they were soooo good!!! They didn't last long in my house! lol
My choice of charity is the National MS Society
ReplyDeleteMy favorite nonprofit is Hospice of Michigan. Giving people the gift of dying with dignity is truly honoring life.
ReplyDeleteNow if you'll excuse me, there's a pan of brownies waiting to be devoured... :)
Are you kidding me? That recipe looks uh-maze-ing!!!! :) (And easy. That's my favorite kind!)
ReplyDeleteMy charity of choice is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I worked there for a couple of years and saw the incredible work they do. I also support Compassion, The ALS Association (also worked there), March of Dimes and Blood Water:Mission.
Susan G. Komen Foundation -- I am a college cheerleading coach and last year, everyone on the team knew someone who had breast cancer. My grandmother is a 7 year survivor this May. We sponsor a "Drink Pink" pink lemonade and bake sale in October every year and I will FOR SURE have to include this wonderful recipe! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity is the empower charity. This is the second year I am walking for the breast cancer walk.
ReplyDeleteI have a 4 year old son with Down syndrome - so definately I support the Special Olympics and other organizations that advocate/support/do research on Down syndrome related topics! He's the absolute light of our life and the best thing that ever happened to us!
ReplyDeleteI'm off to make those brownies soon - I need to bring a treat to our scrapbooking day on Saturday!
My favorite charity would have to be Kiva. I love that they help people help themselves.
ReplyDeleteI've always given to the March of Dimes whenever I can. I also do the walk for breast cancer in my local area every year. My Aunt is a breast cancer survivor!
ReplyDeleteAnd why must you tease me with brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough in the same recipe? That's naughty.
I want one of those for breakfast this morning!
ReplyDeleteThe Susan G Komen Foundation. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and that charity definitely strikes a chord with me because of it's proximity to my family and myself.
ReplyDeleteI have always had a spot in my heart for the March of Dimes - in high school we held bake sales and had booths in the cold of late spring! As an adult, I bought a tee shirt every year sold by the NICU of our hospital. Bake sales are such a warm and homey way to raise money for charities related to kids!
ReplyDeleteThe Susan G. Komen Foundation has a special place in my heart. My grandmother is a survivor and my aunt is currently being treated! Thanks for the recipe. Those look yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I love to support organizations that help people worldwide, like Samaritan's Purse, Compassion, and Adventures in Missions. But, we also think it's important to help the folks in our own community. We regularly give to our local food bank. They do an amazing job!!
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of invisible children - they aid children from the war in Uganda.
ReplyDeletewww.invisiblechildren.com
I love anything that has to do with kids and the Make a Wish Foundation is great. We also try to do a lot to support our local Ronald McDonald House. It's great that families can have a homey, inexpensive, close-to-the-hospital place to stay during a child's hard time.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many amazing charities out there. At the moment, I am growing my hair so I can donate it to Locks of Love. I had always thought about this and after my mom passed away from cancer I was even more determined to do it.
ReplyDeleteThose brownies look incredible! It is going on my list of desserts to try!
There are so many good ones to choose from. Perhaps my fave is the Susan G Komen foundation. My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer the month before my daughter was born. She is now a 4-year survivor. My paternal aunt is also going through treatments. We have 6 ladies from our church in NC who did the 3-day walk for Susan G Komen last fall in D.C. Another group is training for this year.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it counts as a charity or not, but I did a lot of work for Life Chain for a number of years, even heading our chapter for a while.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh these look INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to make them!
ReplyDeleteand my favorite charity is gospel for asia!
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletei make these frequently and bring them to work. people beg me for the recipe but i refuse to give out my secret for magically delicious treats. the chocolate frosting is overkill. the brownie mix and choc chip cookie mix is quite satisfactory and will satisfy any sweet tooth.
ReplyDeletemy fav charity is north shore cancer center, salem, ma
I already commented that I love MakeAWish but I just tweeted your blog entry to my whopping 52 followers. Not sure what good it will do but hope it helps! :)
ReplyDeleteTwitter @emilykasik
Those looks great - and SO easy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity is the Humane Society - they give voices to those that cannot speak for themselves.
Although I do support the Make a Wish Foundation because it is so amazing and inspiring, I think what's closest to my heart is the USO. I think it's important for us to show our gratitude and support for our military heroes who defend us and their families!
ReplyDeleteWow, those cookie brownies look scrumptious; definitely now on my to-do list; thanks!
I am a fan of ASPCA or any animal rescue organization. Our family has had dogs since before I was born, and they have all come from these types of places.
ReplyDeleteI watch Animal Cops, and I can't believe how people allow their animals to exist in such horrible conditions. I say exist because it's really not "living" for the poor animals.
Make a wish is great too, as is St. Jude's.
Great post today. I love your blog. :)
Our favorite charity is March of Dimes. We give when we can in memory of our little girl Grace who passed away at 24 weeks. We treasure the few moments we had with her and hope that no other family will have to go through the loss that we have.
ReplyDeleteWe now have two beautiful children here on earth with us and we know our angel is watching over us all.
Bottom line: YUM!
ReplyDeleteYummy. I just made these brownies today. After seeing it on your blog I could not wait.
ReplyDeleteMy charities are St Jude's and SPCA.
Karn0801@aol.com
There are several organizations that pull at my heart (Make-a-Wish is one of them.)
ReplyDeleteI'm an animal lover, so our local SPCA is really important to me. That's where I got my kitty :)
Another is the Ronald McDonald House. I've helped out there in the past by cooking dinner for the families staying there. It's a lot of fun and makes you feel good!
YUM... I want some of these right now!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge supporter of our local no-kill animal shelter, Watermelon Mountain Ranch in Rio Rancho, Mew Mexico. I, and my business, also support our Veterans through whatwouldugive.org.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving us all the chance to plug our favorite charities :-)
Make a Wish is still my favorite charity to support. I'm a teacher and have seen, firsthand, what they do for these kids. What a great cause!
ReplyDeleteI love make a wish- a friends niece is currently battling a brain tumor and is waiting for her wish. Also any thing supporting breast cancer awareness!
ReplyDeleteWow! I've gotta try that brownie recipe...it sure rolls up several favorite desserts into one handy-dandy treat!
ReplyDeleteCauses close to my heart: Samaritan's Purse and St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
Bridget - I had to go get a big glass of cold milk just looking at your photographs of those brownies.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite charity is our local hospital, and a local group I am a charter member of Power of the Purse.
My favorite charity... hum... well... I guess we always give to our church, which in turn gives directly back to community and local organizations in need.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
AManda
Heifer International is one of my favorite charities; I give to them annually.
ReplyDeleteurchiken at gmail dot com
Can't wait to try this recipe for our homeschool group's leadership meeting tomorrow. Favorite charity - American Diabetes Association. Dh has lived with diabetes for 35 years.
ReplyDeletehope i win!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know your contest if over, but I still wanted to come back and leave a comment about my favorite charity...Team in Training, which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I just couldn't seem to get my post updated in time, but thought I'd still come back and share with you a charity that means so much to me. Check out a fundraiser I planned here: http://craveindulgesatisfy.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI cannot speak. My mouth is watering.
ReplyDeletebittersweetsugarandsarcasm.blogspot.com
The MS Foundation b/c I was diagnosed w/ MS and learned a lot about it. After I found out I was misdiagnosed, I am even more determined to help MS research!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cancer nurse, so any legitimate charity that funds research or helping out my patients is awesome. Way too many to name. I'm also a big fan of Partners in Health cause I really feel they have the pulse of World Public Health and Paul Farmer is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI've made these brownies. They're lethal.
I have a quick question. I made this last night, and as I poured the ganache over the brownies, it looked as luxurious as your did. When I went to serve them today to my co-workers. The ganache was dull and looked sad. Did anyone else who made this experience that?
ReplyDeleteI made these brownies! They're amazing! Your recipe is featured on my blog
ReplyDeletehttp://theriseofanovelist.blogspot.com/2010/05/sooo-im-back.html
