{Are you scared, yet?!?}
- cookies (I used Alphabet cookie cutters, like these
)
- AmeriColor Super Black
Gel Food Coloring
- Disco Dust
Outline and fill the cookies with black royal icing. While the icing is wet, sprinkle on the Disco Dust.
THAT'S IT!!!
Disco Dust is like bling for cookies. I can't even describe how sparkly and pretty it is. It captures the light like nothing I've ever seen. I hope these pictures do it justice:
I bought my Disco Dust
And since it's almost Halloween, let me share with you the SCARY thing about Disco Dust....it gets EVERYWHERE!!! If you have a toddler, I'd definitely keep it out of reach. I made these cookies a few days ago and and still seeing sparkles on my table, my floor, my FACE. You've been warned! ;)
you're passing these are to trick or treaters, RIGHT????
ReplyDeleteOMG, loooooooooooove!!! I'm a little frightened of disco dust though. Do you think it is safe to eat? I feel like I read that it wasn't FDA approved, so I ended up not buying it.
ReplyDeleteThese are so fun! Love it! :)
ReplyDeletelurvvvvvvve these!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see the sparkle! Love the Disco Dust(even the name)!
ReplyDeleteLoved that first shot, it goes perfectly with that expression!
ReplyDeleteDid you get a new camera? Your pictures look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove these!! I haven't played around with disco dust yet, but now I think I have to order some.
ReplyDeleteLove those! Love that B&W picture!!!
ReplyDeleteThe description from SweetBaking Supply states:
ReplyDelete"Disco Dust contains only ingredients that are NON-TOXIC.
These dusts are not a food product and should not be considered as such."
You must not have any concerns as far as eating it? It looks sooo pretty!
wow,...for me thy r cute,.
ReplyDeleteHi Bridget!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you decided to play with Disco Dust! It absolutely gets everywhere! It's in my bed, on my husband's work shirt... everywhere! I like sparkes tho!

Ally @ Allyson Jane
TeraToo....no, it doesn't scare me. I also used to eat those little silver "dragees" when I was a kid and now they are marked for "decoration" only. I think if you were to eat a GALLON of disco dust, it might not be a good idea, but you would be really *sparkly.*
ReplyDeleteI love that disco dust - how pretty would it be sprinkled over holiday cookies?! :)

ReplyDeleteAwesome and thanks for sharing about the disco dust!! Kerri
ReplyDeleteYour stuff looks so awesome you make me never want to bake again because I so can't come close. How do you even find out about stuff like disco dust? :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm still hoping to squeeze out some kind of Halloween cookie or cupcake before...Sunday... ;)
ReplyDeleteOh they are gorgeous :) I learnt about edible glitters like this in a class- and really you arent supposed to eat any of them- they are made primarily for decorating cake toppers and things like that for not-eating. Even though they aren't toxic, they are still made from metals like regular glitter so arent supposed to be digested. They are never clear though - there is even a brand over here called EDABLE GLITTER- The guys name is Ed Able...but you still arent supposed to eat it! Talk about false advertising. Everyone uses them anyway- like you said, in such tiny amounts Im sure its no problem. I think these days the silver dragees are ok, they are made from mostly sugar & coated in alcohol paint. :)
ReplyDeleteThese cookies are so cute! I love the AmeriColor black gel because it doesn't taste that bad when you have to use a lot for a dark black cookie.
ReplyDeleteLove that 1st picture~ HAPPY HALLOWEEN~
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the glitter dust!! I made some pumpkins using craft glitter dust and stupid me did them on top of the island. I swear when I rolled out pizza dough a week later, there was flecks of glitter in it. Guess it wasn't toxic cause everyone is fine :O I am hosting a Holiday Recipe Exchange starting Monday and would love to have you join! You have some of the coolest cookies ever! www.foodfunandfotos.com
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea!!and I have tons of disco dust!
ReplyDeleteThese are just too cute Bridget!!
ReplyDeletethese are so fun! so wish i would have seen these two days ago.:)
ReplyDeleteI've found your cookie stash...I'm going to be here all night! Love the disco dust! Wonderful design!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but disco dust is fine particle PLASTIC glitter. No way would I put that on something meant to be consumed. Cute for decos that will be removed before eating, but a real NO-NO for something people will actually eat.
ReplyDeleteTry putting that on an ingredients label and having it fly: Flour, sugar, butter, PLASTIC.............yuck.........
