I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, there was only one flavor of Icee for me: the Coke Icee. No cherry...and don't even get me started on the Blue Raspberry flavor. It was Coke Icee or nothin'.
So, when I saw this recipe in the little booklet that came with my new ice cream maker,
You'll need: 4 cans of cold Coke and an ice cream maker.
Pour the cold Coke into the frozen bowl and process for about 20 minutes.
Have your glasses and straws ready.
Ta-da! That's it!
Now, I think they might add a little something else to Icees, because it tastes close, but not exactly like the real thing. But hey, Icees at home? I'll take it!
{The little recipe booklet says you can make this with any soda, as long as it's not made with artificial sweeteners.}
So, if you're having people over for Memorial Day (or any day for that matter), give it a try. I think I'm going to try Ginger Ale Icees next!
It does look refreshing all right and why am I not surprised that you have polka dot straws. Too darn cute. Hope you are having a lovely Memorial Day Weekend.
ReplyDeleteMmmm looks tasty! especially for how hot its been here in Texas lately... :]] where did you get the pretty bottles??!
ReplyDeleteTrying this first thing in the morning. Well, maybe just before we head to the pool :-) Yum!
ReplyDeleteLooks incredibly refreshing and delicious!
ReplyDeleteNo way! How cool is this?! I'm so excited to whip up some delicious rootbeer icees now!
ReplyDeleteLove that! Ok can I come over for some photo shooting tutorials? Seriously your shots are amazing!
ReplyDeleteOOO, I have that same ice cream maker, so I will have to give those a try because husby LOVES Coke slushees!!!
ReplyDeleteoh my! That looks divine. I will have to give that a try with my favorite drink of choice...Dr. Pepper!
ReplyDeleteI dont even have to be present to know that this makes you the COOLEST mom on the block! How fun!
ReplyDeleteI want one now! Think we'll try these tomorrow but not sure they'll be as cute as yours... Yummy!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever used the ice cream maker that attaches to the Kitchenaid Mixer? I want an ice cream machine, but really hate to buy another appliance. you have quite a few ice cream recipes and I didn't know if you prefer the Cuisinart machine. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh how I'd love one of these!!
ReplyDelete@Jasmine Gee.... I think those are empty Starbucks Frappuccino bottles.
ReplyDeletethis is SO up my alley!
ReplyDeleteI will HAVE to try this. But it won't be tonight and can't be tomorrow-not going to town...But this is definately worth the try. Icee's are made with Coke syrup. Hmm,just thinking. And I agree that the Coke Icee is THE one ;)
ReplyDeleteI love this! would it work with Lemon Squash?
ReplyDeleteI used to get Icees all the time when I was in high school, we even had a machine on campus! This really brought back memories for me. Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI always had the coke icees too. Other flavors just didn't cut it. What I also remember growing up was this icee maker cup we used to have. You would stick it in the freezer (it had an insulated cup) and then pour in your liquid and work your spoon around and scrape the frozen bits off the sides until the entire contents were slush. I used that sucker ALL the time when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing back that memory I had long since forgotten :)
ReplyDeleteOh you did NOT figure out how to make one of my favorite things in the whole entire world.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!!! My kids are thanking you in advance!
ReplyDeleteThe straws at bottles are from Hey Yo Yo:

:)
Great idea, my kids will be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteI'm CONVINCED that I NEED an ice cream maker! It has officially moved over from a want to a need.
ReplyDeleteI make these all the time for my kids with rootbeer, Dr. Pepper & cherry coke! :)
ReplyDeleteThat Cuisinart is the best little ice cream maker. I hadn't even thought about an icee, but now ...
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you posted this today! My aunt just got out of the ICU after being hit by a drunk driver at 80 mph two weeks ago. Once she was off the ventilator and her feeding tube was removed, yesterday a Coke Icee was the first thing she wanted. I've been selling cookies to raise money for her medical bills and using your recipes. Xo
ReplyDeleteok, Steve would LOVE these! I'm going to have to make him some!!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a fabulous weekend!
I do this with raspberry iced tea - and with a really good apple juice - YUM!!!
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I loved coke syrup over shaved ice. And now rarely drink a coke that I have not stuck in the freezer for half an hour or so!
ReplyDeleteBut sometimes, I stop at BurgerKing for a frozen coke.
Does it go "flat" after the machine?
any tips on how to make this without an ice cream maker? And I have to admit, this Bostonian has NO idea what an Icee is... (i hear all your gasps throughout the internet...!!)
ReplyDeleteI need to make these for sure!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to try this! I think I will have to bust mine out tomorrow and let the kids make some!!
ReplyDeleteNot only is this our very favorite treat and make them almost every day in the summer (you have to try this with margarita mix!) ....we've never made actual ice cream in our ice cream maker, only slushies!
ReplyDeletethey actually add gas to make it 'fizzy' and so that the coke doesnt separate from the ice.but looks great!
ReplyDeletemmm ginger ale icees sound so good! i bet diet coke wouldn't work because it has artificial sweeteners in it. thats too bad. those are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI've done that before!
ReplyDeleteI like to use lemonade it tastes nice on a hot day!
Coke Icees are my favorite thing ever. LOVE THEM.
ReplyDeleteI get a huge one every time I go to SAMS club. Thanks so much for the recipe, I will be using it!!
I am TOTALLY a cherry cola icee freak - I'm all over making this!
ReplyDeleteBRILLIANT! My kids will LOVE you!
ReplyDeleteI'm a coke icee addict, but I have never thought to try this... What has taken me so long? I will be sending the hubby to the store for some soda so that I can make these ASAP!
ReplyDeleteRootbeer next
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I both loved Coke Icees when we were kids! Now we're going to have to go out and buy an ice cream maker. Like we needed an excuse.....
ReplyDeletehola Soy de Patricia y me encantaria aprender la tecnica demodelado de figuras en pasta de goma.

Coke Icee's are totally the best! As a kid, I had no time for Blue Raspberry. And Cherry was merely a back up for when the Coke flavor was empty. Coke all the way!
ReplyDeleteI grinned when I saw your picture! I have the same machine and we LOVE to make slushies. My girls' favorite is Root Beer. And when they are sick, nothing is better than a Sprite slushie (or apple juice for that matter.) Might have to make some tomorrow (after picking up some sugar-laden goodness!)
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!
These look so delicious!! I am your new follower! I will definitely be trying some of your recipes.. :) Also if you want to check out my blog it is For-The-Love-Of.blogspot.com I am new to this, but I am excited to share recipes, crafts, and make-up. If you would want to follow also that would be wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother used to have these plastic mugs with removable inserts that you would freeze. You could pour a Coke into it and stir and it would turn slushy. I loved those mugs--even though I was seldom patient enough to get it frosty all the way through!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea!
This is a great and super simple idea! I am going to link to it and include a picture in my Sunday (6/11) Links to Love post over at www.momof6.com!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Sharon
Just an idea, but if you don't have an ice cream maker maybe you can freeze the cola in an ice cube tray then blend in the blender w/ some unfrozen coke. I haven't tried this, but it's how I make my homemade Fappacinos and thought the same may work for this. It's worth a try!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of recipe!! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant! This is perfect! My husband is always looking for diet coke icees but can't find them, so now I can make them! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Only coke works for me too!
ReplyDeleteCoke is still the best for me
ReplyDeleteICEE uses CO2 in the machine to give the product that light but slushy taste.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. i concur that the coke flavor reigns supreme in the icee world. The serving of these in the milk bottles is great!
ReplyDeleteNo way! This post is amazing! I've been trying to figure out how to recreate this tasty treat at home. Only one question: is it possible to make these without an ice cream maker? I have a metal bowl; could I try freezing that by itself? Or is there another way?
ReplyDeleteReally very happy to say, your post is very interesting to read. you’re doing a great job. Keep it up
