Anyway...as my mom hovered around my hospital bed, she asked if I would like something special once we got home. I asked for a cat. (At the time, my mom was NOT a cat person.)
Turns out, my fainting was just due to low blood sugar or lack of chocolate, something along those lines.
I still got that kitty. Lesson for you kids: faint in class, hospital stay, ask for cat.
For the cookies, I sometimes get in trouble trying to be too literal with cookies. If I tried to make actual, realistic cat cookies, I have a feeling they'd look weird. Therefore, I bring you polka dot kitty cookies...I know the 6-year-old me would have loved them.
To make the cookies, you'll need:
- kitty-shaped sugar cookies
- royal icing, tinted with AmeriColor Super Black, Bright White and Soft Pink
- couplers and tips: #2, #1
- disposable icing bags
- squeeze bottles
- toothpicks
Thin the grey and white icings with water, a bit at a time, stirring with a silicone spatula, until it is the consistency of a thick syrup. You'll want to drop a "ribbon" of icing back into the bowl and have it disappear in a count of "one thousand one, one thousand two." Four is too thick, one is too thin. Count of 2-3 is good. Cover with a damp dishcloth and let sit for several minutes.
Stir gently with a silicone spatula to pop and large air bubbles that have formed. Pour into squeeze bottles.
Let the cookies dry 1 hour.
Let the cookies dry 6-8 hours or overnight.
Polka dot kitties are purrrfect ;) So cute!

Typically, I'm not a cat person at all... Huge dogs are the ones I love ;) But these cookies are SO adorable! You seriously have got some made skills. :)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a cat person, but I think I'd love these cookies either way. They are simple, yet effective and very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love cats that belong to other people:) But cat COOKIES made from your recipe..................well, I could become a cat person as long as those are around.
ReplyDeleteI love your story!
Bunny. But I'm allergic to everything. :(
ReplyDeleteI'd quite like a lizard or a snake, though...
Love your polka dot kitties - they're gorgeous!

aw so cute! I am a dog person for sure, nothing better than a little yorkie that loves to sit in you lap and cuddle!
ReplyDeleteBest kitty cookies I have seen!! Adorable. I am a dog person for sure, and the Golden Retriever kind to be specific. They are the most loyal & affectionate dogs.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute, I almost can't take it. I'm going to attempt these for my sister's birthday. . .she's definitely a cat person.
ReplyDeleteOh these are just gorgeous. I wonder whether the hospital trick will work for a dog too?
ReplyDeleteVery cute! We are dog people, but my sister is a bunny person. Before she was a bunny person, she was a dog person, too.
ReplyDeleteWell, these cookies might make me a cat person! But in my non-cookie life (is there such a thing??) I am a dog person. So glad you didnt have a brain tumor! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are darling! Love the grey and pink combo---so pretty!
ReplyDeleteWOW...these are just too cute.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh, love, love, love! I am and have always been a cat person....my mother is a cat person as it my brother and sister and now, one of my daughters and one of my sons are also cat people as are several of my grandchildren..........I think it's an inherited trait. LOL These are so precious. I can't draw, but these, I think I could do these. Thank you for the inspiration.

ReplyDeleteThese are Precious with a capital P.
I heart you for making dotty kitties.
ReplyDeleteOh my word are those ever CUTE!!!!!!!! I WANT one. A real life one. A-teeny-tiny...gray-and-whitey...polka.-dottie. kitty. (has a nice ring to it doesn't it?) I'm weird. :)
ReplyDeleteI think your kitties are purr-fect!
ReplyDeleteI am a cat person. I am proudly owned by 2, 14 year old Himalayans.
I also fainted while I was in school. It was actually caused by hitting my funny bone on the desk behind me. I hit my head so hard when I fell that I had a seizure. Not fun, but luckily I was wearing jeans (!), though I did send one of my shoes flying.
I adore your polka dot kitties and the pink bow with the gray is the perfect touch!
ReplyDeleteI am more of a dog person (love my SWEET black lab, Riley), but have had some cats in my life and loved them too:)
These are so cute!!
ReplyDeleteWe're bird people. But the cat cookies are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThose are absolutely adorable!!!! I love the polka dots!!! =)

ReplyDeleteHoly Catwoman Batman! These are GORGEOUS! I'm a dog person who married a cat lover. We have kids that want a hamster, but happily live with 7 fish. It somehow works. XO
ReplyDeleteLOVE!! I am a cat person, but have no pets right now due to allergies of family. THESE COOKIES ARE SO ADORABLE! Sometimes, the most simple thing is the most impactful. True for these. Thanks for the great idea!

Such lovely cats!
ReplyDeleteI'm a cat person (and a dog person) who married a non-cat person. When our cat had to be put to sleep 9 years ago, I knew it would probably be a very long time until I got to have one again.
ReplyDeleteThese kitties, though I think he would like very much :)
Precious!!
ReplyDeleteThose look absolutely amazing! What beautiful biscuits :) And an excellent lesson in how to get a pet- if only six year old me had known!
ReplyDeleteThese are cute! I am not as much of a cat person, but I'm thinking puppy cookies with a yellow bow would be adorable. And, they would match Madison's puppy themed grey and yellow nursery. :) You know, because she cares if cookies she doesn't get to eat match her nursery. Mama cares, though. :)
ReplyDeleteThose cat look lovely, I'm also a cat person, but your advice got to late, If I had known it was that easy I would have got a cat when I was six. (loved your story)
ReplyDeletexxx
Those are SO CUTE.
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! My cookies always turn out pretty messy and sloppy looking. Nicely done!

I'm so in love with these! The colors are purrrrfect.
ReplyDeleteI'm a dog person but right now the office cat Ginger is asleep around my neck!
ReplyDeleteLove the cookies - wish my dots turned out this nicely.
The 57 year old in me loves these polka dot cats!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I fainted during choir practice when I was young. The nuns couldn't get me to come too so they drove me home and my parents took me to the hospital emergency. After I was examined by a Dr. he told my parents to take me home and feed me! My Mom was so embarrassed and was not to happy to find out that I skipped out on breakfast that morning. I guess it was a low blood sugar thing with me too. I wasn't asked if I'd like anything special when I got home but my Mom did cook me a huge breaksfast :)
Oh my!! I'll be sure to wear the right underwear if I faint...
ReplyDeleteB these cookies are so elegant & beautiful!! XO
Cats all the way. I love these they are adorable. I would of loved to see your weird versions of real cats though. I'd still think they were cute I'm sure. We are always accused of picking the strange looking cats from the animal rescue centre.
ReplyDeletei do love your honesty...
ReplyDeleteand that gray color is a good gray, normally gray bites, but that is a good gray
does that make sense? lol
I am definitely a cat person...I started out having dogs, until a found a kitten at one of my construction site. I adopted the kitten, she got along great with my dogs and she turned out to be the sweetest cat.
ReplyDeleteWow, those cookies are increadible. Thanks for sharing how to make them!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. These kitty cookies are so elegant and pretty and sweet and adorable!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up on a farm I always had 3-4 cats with me. They are so cute. Love the cookies :)
ReplyDeleteSo so cute! I love the cat cookies and the story that goes with them! I can so relate -- we got a dog when our (then 10 year old) and now (26 year old) fell off her bike and broke both her arms! Have had a dog/dogs ever since! Lol! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese are the cutest little kitty cookies I've seen!
ReplyDeleteLurrrrve them!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteUm!
ReplyDeleteI'm a dog, a cat and a bunnnnnnny person!
I love these polka-dot kitties!
Man do I ever miss the life I use to have with kitties in our cottage in Alabama.
At one time we had 8 stray kitties {that were all named after great aunts and pawpaws and mawmaws} that fed in the barn and called our little cottage home.
Here are some of the names:
Tinsey
Dobber
Dobber Junior {DJ}
LeRoy
Little Lou
Clarence
Jessie
Buddy
Inside Kitties were:
Bear {named after Bear Bryant}
Brody {named after Bama quarterback}
Buc-a-roo
Beau
I guess you can say I'm a CAT person!
xxoxox
Miss my kitties!
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove dogs, but have tons of cat lovers in my family. Quick question - where did you get the lovely pink rose paper for your post? I love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cara
Arhhh! They're so cute! I am beaming from ear-to-ear! I am definitely going to try and make these! I am a cat person too! I will bake some of these in honour of my kitty, Skye!
ReplyDeleteOh, Bridget!! I love these cookies! They remind me of my Bing!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for sharing these with us!
xo
Your story game me a good ol' chuckle! Especially the underwear part! And no worries about the instagram, mine is full of dog pictures! People probably think I am a crazy dog lady!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I bet that girl couldn't wait to tell you about the underwear...These are so, so cute!
ReplyDeleteohhh your cookies are so so cute!
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you where do you buy this cutter= thank.
simply amazing!
ReplyDeletevery well done
I know my six-year old self would have loved those...and I think my 36-year old self would, too. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are cat people. I always have been, and Husband has been since the first year we were married, and I came home, all puppy-dog-eyed (no pun intended), asking him for a cat. Surprisingly, he said yes very quickly, and our kitties have him easily wrapped around their little paws. ;)
I'm totally a dog person! I think I need to take your advice on my 'artistic' endeavors and avoid aiming for realistic. It never ends well!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these cookies! I was always a dog person until I met my husband--and his cat. Now we have two!
ReplyDeleteBridge, LOVE your grey and pink with white polka dot kitty cat cookies. (And, I’m sorry that girl felt compelled to tell you all the other kids saw your underwear. So what if you “flashed” a little on your way down. You got a new cat!) Cheers to bona fide cat people! ♥
ReplyDeleteWe are ferret people over here! I never would have thought myself a ferret person, but hubby convinced me shortly after we started dating that they were fun. I did about 2-3 months of research online, and decided that yes I could handle ferrets. We are up to 4 now! Got a baby 2 month old last Friday, she is a wild thing! Anyone thinking about getting ferrets I always tell them to adopt one that's around 2 years old first, much easier. And do your research online. Always.
ReplyDeleteThose cat cookies are so cute!! I definitely will have to think about getting a kitty cookie cutter.
These cookies are soooo cute!!! I die, seriously...I can't get over the cuteness!
ReplyDeleteTotally a cat person. In fact, I have one cat whose nickname is Bunny because she does the bunny hop when she's running. Frankie a/k/a Bunny is having surgery today for bladder stones. Send up a good thought for her.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable! I'm definitely more of a dog person, but my fiance loves cats and has had them since he was a kid... I know that our married life will probably begin by adopting a feline, and I'm coming to terms with it! A few rough experiences with cats in my youth made me skittish around them, but time heals all wounds!
ReplyDeleteBunny person all the way, I have one at home. I definitely want a puppy in the near future though :-)
ReplyDeleteI am most definitely a cat person. I love the whole Hello Kitty brand too!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter would love these. So much easier to do than all the details. Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, these are stunning. Defiantly need to try these one day :)
