Sweet on Trader Joe's Saturday: Milk Chocolate Macadamia Nut Laceys Cookies

Well, what a way to start off the new year. We totally FORGOT to write our Trader Joe's post yesterday. Today really feels like Wednesday to me.  Kiddo goes back to school on Tuesday. I sure hope he remembers because I may not!

Better late than never, right? Today, we're reviewing Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Macadamia Nut Laceys Cookies.

No description on the package, but lacey-type cookies are typically a crispy, thin cookie made with oats and sandwiched together with chocolate. This rendition has no oats, but chopped macadamia nuts. An 8-ounce package (about 10 cookies) costs $3.99.

A mom's (my) take: Maybe it's the macadamia nuts, maybe it's the milk chocolate, but these Laceys Cookies are unlike others I've fallen in love with in the past. I don't get much chocolate taste here at all...mainly a caramel-toffee flavor. I think an extra pinch of salt on top would have helped make these more interesting. I didn't even finish one cookie. For a cookie monster like me, that's saying something. The texture and crispness, however, are spot on.
Overall rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

A teenager's (kiddo's) review: Well, I don't know what mom is talking about. I love these! The first flavor to hit was the nutty, macadamia flavor. Then, the rich, milk chocolate hit- for me, this was the substance of the cookie. Lastly, the slightly salty and slightly chewy caramel/toffee-ish flavor is the last to come, leaving the taster with a long-lasting and pleasant aftertaste (that was a mouthful!(no pun intended)).
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate Macadamia Nut Laceys Cookies: split decision!

Read all of our Sweet on Trader Joe's posts!  See you next week...hopefully, on SATURDAY!

  1. Bridget, I think you needed to take another bite. These are one of my favorite guilty TJ indulgences! We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. ;) ;)

  2. I am always a fan of Lacey's, but now it looks like I'll have to try these ones for myself next time I'm home in Houston...do you by chance have a good recipe for Lacey's? I'd love to satisfy my tastebuds with some more often, but not shell out the price!

  3. Ok, I tried them again, and I agree that they aren't as good as homemade. They are sweet and crunchy (so: win) but lack a depth of flavor (so: lose). America's Test Kitchen has a good recipe for pecan lace cookies.
