Well, once Jack and I spied this bag of mini churros at Trader Joe's yesterday, I knew we had to try them. They're in the freezer section.
[note: It's not easy to take a picture and pour cinnamon sugar evenly. ;)]
An 8-ounce bag costs $3.99.
A mom's (my) take: The exterior of these were crispy and golden...with a perfect sprinkling on cinnamon-sugar (included). The interior, though, was doughy. I'm not sure if this is how churros are supposed to be, but I was expecting them to be lighter. These were the consistency of mashed potatoes. Hmmm. The churros are a convenient little dessert to pop in the oven, however, I'm not sure I would purchase these again.

A teenager's (Jack's) take: These little guys are dangerous! At first bite, all you can really taste is the sugary goodness all over the outside--which is not at all a bad thing! However, it soon yields to the buttery, semi-flaky dough on the inside, which I can't personally get enough of. It's reminiscent of a funnel cake. I could have quite a few of these in one sitting, and I'm thinking I'll try them with some Nutella next time...

Here's what else we're loving this week:
- Have you watched an episode of Valerie's Home Cooking? I happened to catch one this weekend and loved it. She's so cute! Check out her recipe for Butterscotch Love Cake. Ohmygosh.
- Planning for Valentine's Day already? Check out Brenda's Cherry Cordials. So pretty!
- Hopefully you saw THE Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies?
- Go see the movie Concussion. All three of us loved it...Will Smith was fantastic and I'll never watch football in the same way again.
OOOH I have to get these! I love churros! They are supposed to be soft in the middle just like your description, Bridget! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteBridget! Are you nt a Costco member??? You need to go there - you don't have to have a membership to go try a churro in the food court (but you should join if you have o e nearby). Their churros are the best!
ReplyDeleteAnd they shouldn't be doughy - they should be like a doughnut inside.
ReplyDeleteWell, as Arizonans, we have to say these are just like Jack stated - can't get enough of them! Bob loves them, too, which is saying something. My only comment is that there isn't enough cinnamon in the sugar mix. I have made my own sugar/cinnamon for years and that would be better to sprinkle on them which I will do with the rest of the bag. They taste like a churro but I agree with Jodi - Costco has a great one only you have to eat it there - hot off the grill, so to speak. Blessings on your head for finding these!!
ReplyDeleteI've had these at the sample table at Trader Joe's - with dulce de leche! The woman also said she was putting them in a couple minutes longer (maybe 8-9?) than directed to avoid the doughy center :)
