Ever since making homemade English muffins, I've had visions of pink ♥-shaped muffins dancing in my head.
Well...they didn't exactly turn out like the muffins of my dreams, but they are still good.
Here's what I learned:
- Gel/Paste food coloring does not "knead in." I ended up with marbleized dough...good if you are going for the 60's psychedelic look.
- Heart-shaped dough doesn't necessarily stay heart-shaped. Anyone for English muffin amoebas?
- Most important, my neighbor makes a killer strawberry jam!!! (And it is the prettiest shade of red!)
I think I'm sticking to the original from now on. :)
{If only I can get my hands on some more jam. Hmmmm...}

ReplyDeleteYum! Those look good. I just picked up the book at the library yesterday to attempt these. Do you use the baking method?
ReplyDeleteMmmm... I have to try it, too!! Loaded with jammmmmm... Bridget, you can try mixing color in the water called for in the recipe, or beat it in the eggs before adding to the dough... I tried that on a recipe for... (can't remember what)but it worked... hope it works for you :)
ReplyDeleteOops... I deleted my own post... don't know how I did that nor wanted to do that... sorry, here it is again..
You have such a nice neighbor ;D
ReplyDeleteI had to send some calories your way, since you're always so thoughtful!
Those muffins are adorable!
Would the really nice neighbor with the very red delicious jam mind sharing her recipe? We're going strawberry picking next week and I don't have the slightest CLUE what to do with them other than eating them with gobs of whipped cream :O).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your neighbor would be happy to trade cookies for jam.
ReplyDeleteThis is for Kim. Just buy a box of Sure-jel. There are recipes inside. Follow them exactly & you should have very red strawberry jam, too. Mine turned out great.
Hey Kim...click on the "strawberry jam" link in the post and it will take you right to the recipe.
ReplyDeleteMolly...the recipe is linked in the first post. It's from a blog, not from KA. Although, I bet their recipe is great. :)
I definitely thought they were heart shaped! Good job.

YUMM! I just went strawberry picking so this is perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteMy strawberry jam is about as bright red as your neighbors and my girls love it so much, they won't eat any other strawberry jam anymore. The difference is that I don't cook the strawberries, and therefore the jam tastes as if you are fresh strawberries.
Even though they did not turn out the way you wanted, I still think they are adorable
ReplyDeleteThose are precious! I think they look like hearts! And that jam looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteLOL English muffin amoebas. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, those still look absolutely delicious!!
Oh my those look soooo good! I think I could by pass the psychedelic look.
ReplyDeleteThose are adorable!! I've been working up the courage to try English muffins. I'm going to have to break out the cookie cutters and give it a go!
ReplyDeletethese are cute! good attempt, even though they didn't come out the way you envisioned!
ReplyDeletei think they are wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteThese look adorable! Just look at that mouthwatering jam!
ReplyDeleteI think they look adorable and very "hearty"!
ReplyDeleteI (Heart) these!!:) What a cute idea for a tea party. I love that bread blog where you got the muffins by the way--you got me hooked on it!
ReplyDeleteToo cute!!! I was thinking about heart shaped eggs and toast for our anniversary on Tuesday. Maybe if you over exaggerate the cut???
ReplyDeleteMy MIL told me that when adding color to bread you have to mix it in the liquid part before you add the flour??? I don't often add color to bread so just an idea for next time. The jam looked great on it!
