My solution for such emergencies....Chocolate Quesadillas! They're quick and made from ingredients I always have on hand.
Here's all you need:
- chocolate chips (regular or mini)
- cinnamon sugar
- tortillas
- powdered sugar (optional, but pretty)
Just heat up a skillet on med/low with a little butter, oil, or cooking spray...whatever you have available. Cover one half of a flour tortilla with chocolate chips, sprinkle chips with cinnamon sugar. Fold in half, place in the pan and cook until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side.
Let sit for a couple of minutes so that all of the chocolate doesn't ooze out. Cut into wedges with a pizza cutter and dust with sifted powdered sugar. Voila...dessert in a flash!
Chocolate Quesadillas definitely work for me in a dessert emergency! We are THAT Family hosts all of the Works For Me Wednesday ideas, so go check 'em out!

I am making this. Right now. Seriously right now. Bye!
ReplyDeleteThat does sound awesome. And I think I need it right this minute!
ReplyDeleteDo you use semi-sweet chips or milk chocolate? I LOVE this idea!
ReplyDeleteMary...I use semi-sweet. ♥
ReplyDeleteThose look delicious. And I do have all those ingredients right now! When I had a chocolate craving I used to make a batch of old-fashioned fudge. You know, the kind that is pure baking chocolate, sugar, butter and vanilla, no marshmallow stuff. This sounds much easier and quicker.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about the Flavor-of-the-Month I can't wait! I am a little confused about how to add mine to your list, but I'm sure when the time comes I'll be able to figure it out. See you then!
It was delicious!
ReplyDeleteTortilla for dessert!! Ah... I am so going to try this!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to try that! I'm the dessert person for our extended family dinners on Thursday nights and there has been a time or two that I've realized that I forgot to buy supplies or don't have everything I need.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know I'm not the only one who always has torilla shells at home. Just today I was thinking that might be weird. ;-)
Nice treat. this surley will satisfy an unexpected chocolate craving :)
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I don't know how I ever lived my life with out this treat...I will defitely be making this tomorrow (well later today after I finally go to sleep) Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect! I always love to read your posts and they never disappoint! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy I've never thought about this before?! Thanks, Bridget :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! Almost like a fried pie!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh HOW DELICIOUS!!!!!! I'm totally making it.
ReplyDeleteCome stop by my blog ~ I’m sharing a tasty thing (a dessert too!) I found that works for me and my daughter, which you’ll see LOL. Plus I have a little info on a Non-BlogHer party going on with GIVEAWAYS and fun!! http://www.garibaysoup.com
OOh...I think I'm going to try this today...because I can!!! It looks like the perfect quick dessert.
ReplyDeleteI've done something similar - but I also added peanut butter and marshmallows! To die for!
ReplyDeletethis is such a good tip, I think Nigella did somthing similar, but yours looks oh so easy!
ReplyDeleteOh my! These sound delicious and so simple. What a great way to use up leftover tortillas that we always seem to have.
ReplyDeleteoh I never thought and I do have this stuff on hand always :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! we make these with crescent rolls, but this sounds even better and easier!! and we have tortillas in the house right now!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!

(is it any wonder I've gained weight since I started blogging? LOL)
Why is it when you have no dessert in the house, it's always on a day when you NEED dessert? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I know!! All the other days I'm like eh, I don't NEED dessert. But as soon as it's not there...bam! I have to have it. :-P
I have to go to the grocery store today for regular food shopping...I will be adding these items to my list. Looks SO yummy and very easy! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI do something like this with nutella - and hard crusty bread - grilled chocolate sandwiches - so good.
ReplyDeleteWe do many a quesadilla in our house, but I've never thought to make them a sweet snack. Great idea :)
ReplyDeleteI've made those before, yum!! And if I'm out of honey I'll just fry the tortillas and drizzle them with honey :)
ReplyDeletehttp://crispy-not-crunchy.blogspot.com/2009/07/wednesday-memes_22.html
That looks FANTASTIC. I will definitely use that one.
ReplyDeleteI do this too, but I spread the tortilla with peanut butter, then add the chips and microwave it instead of on the stove. It doesn't have the same golden brown crispy look, but it sure is quick!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh, this is one of those -"Why didn't I think of that" type dessert ideas! My kids are going to be loving you today!!! What an awesome idea! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about these! Yum!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm a chocoholic living in New Mexico (land of quesadillas) and I never thought of putting chocolate in a tortilla. Thanks for the idea, I always have tortillas.
ReplyDeleteMy boys would get such a kick out of making and eating these. It would even be great to make with kids sleeping over. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThat's really clever! Now I just have to be careful and not make it EVERY DAY!
ReplyDeleteNow why didn't I think of this? We always have this stuff in our house too... unless I eat all the chips. Can't wait to try this one.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! These look awesome! I'll have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteShannon
I make those but I add marshmallows to mine to make it s'more-ish. I also sprinkle my cinnamon sugar to the outside and not the inside. Never thought to add it to the chips and 'mallows inside. That's a much better idea.
ReplyDelete~ingrid

What a grand idea! Will be making these for sure!!! Thanks:)
ReplyDeleteIt seems that whenever my boyfriend and I are bored we resort to your recipe index. Tonight it was this.
ReplyDeleteOne problem: I couldn't get the chocolate chips to melt before the tortillas were burning. Any tips?
Other than that - they were GREAT! We even added pecans! YUM!
Thanks so much! These have become one of my favourite things, they are awesome with peanut butter too =)
ReplyDeleteI actually just made this today!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I hit my new goal weight, this will certainly be a cheat day snack!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I found this, got up immediately made it. I substituted dark chocolate (I love!, Splenda & cinnamon, whole wheat tortillas, and made a sauce with blueberries(my fav), water and Splenda and poured a teaspoonful over it after it was done. Simply heaven Thanks a million!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really like your blog!
ReplyDeleteJust curious if these taste as good the next day? I have a bible study on wednesdays and i'm bringing dessert this week- just don't have any time to prepare anything before the meeting (basically go straight from work)... doesn't sound like anyone let these last for more than a few minutes-- any ideas?
ReplyDeleteYUM! I just found this on Pinterest and made it immediately! I used dark choco chips and it was heavenly. I also didn't have powdered sugar for the outside of the quesedilla, so I added a little more cinnamon sugar to the outside and also drizzled a little honey. I will be making this again in the near future!!!!
ReplyDeleteI used Nutella...WOW!!
ReplyDeletemmmm I might have these for breakfast.... .0.o
ReplyDeletesaw this on Pinterest, had to try it immediately. WOW. just wow. I don't have any better words. I couldn't find my powdered sugar in my cupboards (or was too impatient to look) so I topped it with a few dollops of whipped cream. OH DEAR. this is life-changing!! you are a goddess!! --Sarah H
