
Well, making Apple Pie Spice and Pumpkin Pie Spice at home isn't exactly rocket science, and chances are these spices are already hiding in your kitchen. No more running to the store to buy pumpkin pie spice for one recipe a year!
Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice
(makes 1 teaspoon)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp nutmeg (freshly grated, if possible)
1/8 tsp allspice
Homemade Apple Pie Spice
(makes 1 teaspoon)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg (freshly grated, if possible)
1/8 tsp cardamom
1/8 tsp allspice

ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I need to write those ratios down. I've been making my own apple pie and pumpkin pie spice for a while now, refilling the "real" jars I originally bought. But...I always have to look up the recipe when I run out. Maybe I'll write it on the side of the jar...Thanks Bridget!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I already made my Flavor of the Month recipe which called for pie spice. I substituted ground nutmeg and cinnamon because I didn't have pie spice on hand! I was kind of close :)

ReplyDeletealso an update: I made the lemon-lime bars from a couple months ago and hubby loved them. I also made the pumpkin pie spiced cream cheese (not to go with the lime bars)and that got wonderful reviews on pumpkin spiced muffins.
