Let's face it, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that means pie, turkey, dressing, gravy, bread, sweet potatoes...and oh, did I mention pie?
This year, I'm starting a new plan. A few more salads before the holidays to counteract the food marathon that starts on Thanksgiving and goes straight through to New Year's Day.
So, I present to you....salad. {Bake at 350 style}
Caramel Apple Salad
12 fun-size or 6 large Snickers bars
1 (3.4 oz.) pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix
1 c. milk
1 (8 oz.) container Cool Whip
6-8 Granny Smith apples
Cut the Snickers bars into bite size pieces. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and milk until smooth. Fold in the Cool Whip.
Cut the apples into chunks. Stir into the pudding mixture. Fold in the Snickers.
Top the salad with thin slices of Snickers, chocolate curls or sprinkles to keep it from being mistaken for potato salad.

This recipe was given to me by my friend Lisa who is honestly one of the healthiest eaters I know. Lisa...I can't believe this was even in your recipe box!} ;)
So, who's in? More salads before Thanksgiving? ;)
I definitely would like more salads this year! I'm trying to lose my twin weight and a ittle more, so that would really help
ReplyDeleteNow this is my kind of salad!!!!
ReplyDeleteQuestion - do the apples turn brown if you don't eat it right away?
I like that kind of salad! I'll have to make this soon- thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI make this salad ALL the time! Everyone always requests it-it's the best and so delicious!
ReplyDeleteI do vary it up though since I love chocolate SO much--I double up the batch and use one box of butterscotch pudding and one box of chocolate pudding. Yum!
That looks like the best salad. Yum!
ReplyDeleteit's funny, i was thinking i should have salad for lunch today! this would have been much better than the soup i chose instead;-)
ReplyDeleteCheesecake Salad Delight ( http://www.instructables.com/id/Cheesecake-Salad-Delight/ ) has a similar base, and is really delicious!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a salad! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love this - loading up on 'salad' before Thanksgiving is a great idea! :)
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is MY kind of salad! lol......we get get fat together girlfriend! haha
ReplyDeletewow! That looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteHilarious!!! ;) That's my dream salad!! If only this one would leave the same results on my bod as a so called "healthy salad". Thanks for the smile and the calories!!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting of a salad is this! Just may have to try this out for the next family gathering. I know none of my relatives have heard of this otherwise someone would have made it by now! Thanks for posting Bridget.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh - now I like your style of salad!
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm, yum! You're my kinda lady. Yep. Uh hu. Most definitely.
ReplyDeleteGave you a shout out on my blog today! Sharing my fav blogs! Stop by, if you'd like. :) adventuresofcakegirl.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI think we call that Fat Kid Salad in this family. lol J's brother makes it.... and eats the entire thing himself at home.
ReplyDeleteI love this salad. It is a staple at our synagogue's Rosh Hashonah service every fall. I always put a sign next to it, since it does resemble potato salad after the candy bar garnish is gone.
ReplyDelete@Angela - After preparing your apple chunks, put them in a bowl of water and lemon juice. This will help keep them from getting brown and ugly. You can then remove them from the lemon water, pat dry on paper towels, and add to your salad. The slight amount of lemon juice the apples work with won't change your salad, either.
ReplyDeleteThis is a salad I can get behind! I love it!
ReplyDeleteoh man this looks amazing
ReplyDeleteMy kind of health food!!
ReplyDeleteWill you bring this to my Thanksgiving? Oh wait....you posted this so I'll make it myself...
I'm totally making this for Thanksgiving. I'm serious.
SERIOUS, I say!!
Ha Ha, you had me going for a minute there, Bridget! I thought that first photo was potato salad with candy!?! :) My kids didn't like salad when they were little, but I bet they would have liked this one!
ReplyDeleteI had to comment because I was shocked to see this post. I have been making that salad for years, only no pudding mix. It was given to me, by one of the Los Angeles Dodger's wives. It has been a favorite for our family since I first brought it once to a family dinner. I like to use red and green apples for Christmas, although, with the whip topping, you don't see the colors too well.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
My kind of salad, Bridget!!! Have a nice day :)
ReplyDeleteI've been making this salad for years. Got it from my sister-in-law. My family tends to double up on the snickers. We don't use the pudding mix though. Definitely a salad you want to eat the first day. Not good for left overs.
ReplyDeleteNow thats what I am talking about!! You are the best!
ReplyDeleteThis is totally one of my favorite salads!
ReplyDeleteHere's another...white salad!

ReplyDeleteGosh, what a combination!! Definitely none of that lettuce leaf eating here :)
ReplyDeleteYou really had me for a second. Should have known that no dedicated cake foodie would post a vegetable *gasp* Looks delicious though!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great example of a salad. Amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteUh...I need this in my belly.
ReplyDeleteYUM!
ReplyDeleteOh man. That's my kind of salad. I was just about to skip this post, then I thought you couldn't possible be posting salad!!
ReplyDeleteAny salad that has snickers in it might just be the perfect food.
ReplyDeleteAnother awesome recipe :)
Girl you are so bad! I love it!! Here, here for your salad idea :) What's next love?
ReplyDeleteLOL... My kind of salad!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the "dessert salads" my roommates and I would make at the cafeteria in college. We'd take a salad bowl and pile it with brownies, cookies, ice cream, donuts, pie, etc... Then top it off with the soft serve ice cream you find in every college cafeteria. Needless to say, we all gained a few pounds that year.
this is an awesome recipe! it might be the only way i can get the boyfriend to eat salad!
ReplyDeleteMy kind of salad.
ReplyDeleteHaha - you had me going there when you said salad. This is my kinda Thanksgiving side dish! It looks super delish.

ReplyDeleteMy SIL introduced me to this salad a few years ago and her name is Lisa as well :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I think that salad is completely my style as well!

ReplyDeleteTHIS is the kind of salad that would go over well at our Thanksgiving. I might have to throw it out there for everyone. I always love testing your recipes!
ReplyDeleteIt's official. We need to get married.
ReplyDeleteYou do the baking and I'll do the cleaning.
There. It's settled. You can wear the dress.
Love,
Kate, who will forever dream of this salad
I made a salad like this salad before but it didnt have the pudding and milk in it. I think it had crushed pineapple in it instead. I must make it this way, sounds way better! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my - this is a salad MUST in my family. Seriously, for those who haven't tasted this awesomeness...you must. You will NOT be disappointed.

Good evening Bridgette, I'm the crazy "fan" that greeted you in the grocery store today with my curly headed son. Very cool seeing you there! BTW, you're doing a superb job!
ReplyDelete...pass the salad please!
This is really one delicious salad you have here! I definitely like it. Apples and caramel are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThis is the "salad" my grandma makes every year! We either call it "apple salad" or "snicker salad."
ReplyDeleteGee, I was excited when I clicked on the salad, thinking that I could find an awesome "healthy" salad. Of course, I was excited when I saw it anyways, not for the same reasons though! Snickers, yum! I think snickers belong on all salads!
ReplyDeleteI have made this Snicker Salad only no pudding or milk but had sourcream in it. I like your idea better I think. I would use low fat sour cream and coolwhip when I made it but the Snickers killed that!!!
ReplyDeleteMaking this today. Family requested. :)
