Sweet on Trader Joe's Sunday : Tartufi Dolci

Weekly review of Trader Joe's sweets and desserts from a mom and teenager perspective. This week: Trader Joe's Tartufi Dolci.
There are so many holiday treats at Trader Joe's, it's almost overwhelming. Buy last year's favorites or buy what's new? Or buy them all? Yes, that sounds like a plan...and also a way to go up a jean size.
WORTH IT.

Anyhoo. Today, we review Trader Joe's Tartufi Dolce all' Amaretto. TJ's describes these as "sweet amaretto flavored truffles with crumbled amaretti cookies and Italian hazelnuts." Made in Italy.

A 6-ounce tin of individually wrapped truffles costs $5.99.

A mom's (my) take: Go! Right now. Go to Trader Joe's and buy at least 2 tins of these. (Unless you shop at my Trader Joe's, then...hands off! They're mine!) ;) This is one of my very favorite Trader Joe's goodies we've ever reviewed. The cocoa-dusted truffles are amaretto heaven with a crunch of amaretti cookies and nuts. There's something I really love about a cocoa-covered truffle; the straight up hit of chocolate at the beginning set the tone. Pairing the lovely milk chocolate with the cookies, nuts, and amaretto flavor is a stroke of genius. The perfect two-bite dessert. Practically swoon-worthy.
Overall rating: 10 of 5 stars (See what I did there?)

A teenager's (Jack's) take: THESE ARE HEAVENLY!!!!!! I didn't think I was that big a fan of amaretto, but the way Trader Joe's made these makes it to die for. The first thing I noticed was the dark flavor of the cocoa powder, which was a perfect lead-in to what I was about to taste. A chocolate-y explosion took place, the flavor of which was buttery yet cool at the same time. It was almost identical to these No-Bake Nutella bars! The amaretto really comes out at the end--you couldn't ask for a better aftertaste. Well, Trader Joe's pulled it off, combining delicacy with something you can eat a whole container of!
Overall rating: 6 out of 5 stars (I mean that.)
